What are pre-nuptial and pre-registration agreements?

Pre-nuptial agreements are contracts entered into before marriage (known as pre-registration documents in the case of civil partnerships).

Although such agreements are not necessarily binding in English law, Courts often use them as the starting point for consideration in the case of marriage and relationship breakdowns.
